چکیده

The features like optimized utilization of remotely available resources and dynamic load-balancing provide significant enhancements in overall system performance in distributed systems. These features may be implemented by applying the dynamic process migration mechanism in which an executing process is migrated from a highly loaded workstation to some lightly loaded workstation in the distributed system. The technique called process checkpointing is required to collect the present-state details of the desired executing process which is to be migrated to some workstation in the distributed system. Identifying an executing process’s address-space details and exploring the set of virtual memory area contents currently possessed by the said process is considered to be one of the most difficult tasks for process migration. This paper discusses a kernel-level solution for the problem of checkpointing the process’s desired virtual memory areas. The paper claims better results of the method suggested here over other solutions available. An attempt is made to suggest a solution for the Linux kernel 2.6.25 environment.

Dynamic Simulation of Distillation Sequences in Dew Pointing Unit of South Pars Gas Refinery

The understanding of the dynamic behavior of distillation columns has received considerable attention because distillation is one of the most widely used unit operations in chemical process industries. This paper reports a dynamic simulation study of the possible distillation columns sequences of Dew pointing unit in the second phase of South Pars Gas Refinery. In this unit, three columns are u...

A Novel Recovery Approach for Distributed Systems

In this paper, we have addressed the complex problem of recovery for concurrent failures in distributed computing environment. We have proposed a new approach in which we have dealt with effectively both orphan and lost messages. The proposed check pointing and recovery approaches enable a process to restart from its recent checkpoint and hence guarantees the least amount of recomputation after...

Proceedings of IEEE 27 th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing

Check pointing has been widely adopted in support of fault-tolerance and job migration, with checkpoint files preferably kept also at remote storage to withstand unavailability/failures of local nodes in networked systems. Lately, I/O bandwidth to remote storage becomes the bottleneck for check pointing on a large-scale system. This paper proposes an adaptive incremental check pointing (AIC), a...

A survey on random walk-based stochastic modeling in eukaryotic cell migration with emphasis on its application in cancer

Impairments in cell migration processes may cause various diseases, among which cancer cell metastasis, tumor angiogenesis, and the disability of immune cells to infiltrate into tumors are prominent ones. Mathematical modeling has been widely used to analyze the cell migration process. Cell migration is a complicated process and requires statistical methods such as random walk for proper analys...
